For me, the beauty of a piece of jewelry begins long before its final shape. Its story grows from the place its materials come from, the hands that tend them, and the lives that surround them. The freshwater pearl in this ring comes from pearl farming by local farmers in Lombok. Behind its gentle glow are time, care, and patience. It reminds me that something precious does not always arrive quickly; sometimes, it grows slowly, away from view.
Inspired by the people behind the pearl
What captivated me was not only the pearl itself, but also the stories of culture and ritual surrounding the farmers and their harvests. The traditions they observe before and after harvesting deepened my appreciation for the many ways people relate to the natural world. That diversity continues to inspire me. It reminds me to look beyond a finished object and appreciate the people, places, and ways of life behind it.
