When I look at a pearl, I think about the time I cannot see. A finished ring fits into the palm of a hand, yet the work and lives behind its materials reach much further. That contrast is what drew me to creating our freshwater pearl ring with Balinese floral silver.
I wanted to make a piece that could hold a little of that feeling: appreciation for patient work, curiosity about the people behind a material, and the pleasure of noticing a small detail twice.
The stories that drew us to Lombok
The origin story shared through our sourcing connects this freshwater pearl to local farmers in Lombok. What stayed with me was the place given to culture and ritual in their lives around the harvest. Hearing about traditions observed before and after harvesting made me think about how much a finished piece leaves unseen.
Those accounts inspired admiration, but they also reminded me to listen carefully. This is a personal reflection on the story behind our ring, rather than a description of a single tradition shared by every community in Lombok. The meaning of a ritual belongs first to the people who practise it.
For me, that encounter with different ways of valuing work is part of the pleasure of making things in Indonesia. A material can lead to a conversation; a conversation can change what we notice. The finished object becomes a way of remembering that attention.
What patience means in this ring
I do not see patience as simply waiting. In our work, it means giving something the attention it needs, even when the result is small. It means returning to a detail because it does not yet feel resolved. It also means accepting that a natural material brings its own character to a design.
The pearl became a reminder of that idea. Its gentle light invites a closer look instead of demanding attention from across a room. I wanted the ring to reward the person wearing it in the same way: with details that remain interesting after the first impression.
This is our interpretation of the piece, not a claim that pearls carry one universal cultural meaning. You may find a different association in it: a milestone, a person, or a period of your life that took time to understand.
Why we paired the pearl with floral silver
The setting brings a freshwater pearl together with handcrafted 925 sterling silver and Balinese-inspired floral detailing. The pearl offers a soft focal point; the silver gives the eye a line to follow around it.
To us, a flower suggests growth. That connection felt right beside the pearl, but we did not want the symbolism to overwhelm the object. The ring still needs to be something you enjoy looking at and wearing, even before you know its story.
The floral design is our visual expression of that thought. We do not present it as a ceremonial object or assign a sacred meaning to the motif. Its value here is in the relationship between material, detail, and the person who chooses it.
Making room for individuality
Our freshwater pearls can vary in shape, tone, and surface. Those differences mean the photograph is a reference for the design, while an individual ring may have its own small distinctions.
I like the idea that a piece can feel familiar without being entirely identical to another. Looking closely at those differences can become part of your relationship with it. Over time, it is the particular object you know, rather than an abstract idea of a pearl ring.
