Balinese Barong Guardian Ring

In Balinese temples, Barong walks masked and maned — the guardian spirit who meets darkness face to face and holds the line. He does not defeat chaos outright; the old stories say the two remain in balance, forever circling. What he offers instead is protection: a presence strong enough that the people around him can rest.

Why I chose Barong

I have carried that image with me since first seeing a Barong procession move through a village at dusk — the weight of the costume, the deliberate steps, the way a crowd goes quiet around it. It is not decoration. It is a role someone takes on to look after everyone else. That is the feeling I wanted this ring to hold: not a trophy, but a small guardian worn close to the hand.

Cast and carved by hand

The relief is sculpted and finished by hand, the recesses darkened to hold the detail and the raised surfaces polished bright against them. No two castings finish identically — the depth of a line, the exact shadow in a fold, shifts slightly piece to piece. That is expected, not a flaw.
